Capture the signal safely A laptop may blink its power, battery, or keyboard LEDs; a tower may show labeled motherboard LEDs or a POST-code display. Ordinary charging, drive activity, and decorative RGB lights are not automatically fault codes. Use the exact model manual rather than a generic beep chart.
1 · Choose a symptom 2 · Check safely 3 · Your next step
Before you begin Save your work and back up important files when possible. Stop if there is liquid, smoke, burning, a swollen battery, or anything you are uncomfortable doing. Disconnect power before opening a device; never open a power supply. Ask the shop before changes that could erase data.
Work through these checks. 01 Write down the exact make and model, when the signal happens, and any recent changes such as new RAM. Keep serial numbers private.02 Record one complete repeating pattern or take a short video showing the sound, lights, and screen. Note any labels beside the lights and copy displayed codes exactly.03 With the computer off, disconnect nonessential external USB devices and check the correct external power connection. Do not interrupt an update or firmware recovery.04 Stop for smoke, burning smells, liquid, unusual heat, or a swollen battery. You do not need to open the computer or repeat startup tests to get help.A clue, not a confirmed diagnosis Computers sometimes report startup problems through beeps, flashing LEDs, diagnostic lights, or displayed codes. The meaning depends on the exact manufacturer and model, including the motherboard in a custom PC. Count the signals, note long and short sounds, colors, order, pauses, and whether the pattern repeats. RAM, graphics, motherboard, power, or other hardware may be involved; a signal alone does not confirm a failed part.
Show us what’s happening. Send a short recording of one complete beep or light sequence, or a photo of the displayed code and any labels. Include the exact computer model. Sharing is optional; you can keep using these free checks or let us take it from here.
Keep passwords, recovery keys and private information out of view. You do not need to open the computer or repeat a risky test.
