Windows Updates Causing Problems? Crashes, BitLocker Locks, and What’s Really Going On (2026)

Windows updates are supposed to improve your system — but lately, we’ve been seeing the opposite on real customer machines.

Crashes. BitLocker lockouts. Login issues. Systems acting completely different after an update.

Windows update issues causing crashes and BitLocker lockouts

At RodgersPC, this isn’t theory — this is what we’re fixing every day.

What’s Happening Right Now

We’ve been seeing a sharp increase in systems breaking immediately after Windows updates. Machines that were working fine suddenly start crashing, locking users out, or behaving unpredictably.

This isn’t isolated — it’s happening across different brands, hardware setups, and Windows versions.

BitLocker Lockouts After Updates

One of the biggest issues we’re seeing is BitLocker triggering after updates.

The system may suddenly ask for a recovery key, even if nothing was changed by the user. In many cases, customers don’t know where that key is stored, which leaves them locked out of their own system.

This usually happens when Windows detects a “security change” during the update process.

TPM, PIN, and Security Errors

Updates can also affect TPM (Trusted Platform Module) and Windows Hello settings.

This leads to:

• PIN not working

• “Something happened and your PIN isn’t available” errors

• Security settings resetting or breaking

These issues are tied to how Windows handles encryption and authentication during updates.

Crashes and “Your Device Ran Into a Problem”

We’re also seeing systems crash repeatedly after updates.

Common signs:

• Blue screens

• Endless restart loops

• Freezing during login

In many cases, this is caused by driver conflicts or incomplete update installs.

Why This Is Happening

Windows updates don’t just add features — they change system-level components.

That includes:

• Drivers

• Security layers

• Boot configuration

• Hardware communication

If something doesn’t update correctly, or if the system already had underlying issues, the update can push it over the edge.

What You Should Do

• Don’t keep forcing restarts if it’s crashing

• Take note of any error messages

• Do not try to bypass BitLocker — without the recovery key, access is not possible • Avoid random “fixes” online that can make things worse

• Bring the system in for proper diagnostics

How We Handle This at RodgersPC

We don’t guess — we diagnose the problem properly.

At RodgersPC, we identify exactly what failed during or after the update. That includes checking system integrity, drivers, security components, and hardware behavior.

From there, we apply the correct fix — whether that’s repair, rollback, recovery, or deeper diagnostics — without risking your data or system stability.

RodgersPC Tip:

Repeated restarts during update crashes can corrupt your system or damage your drive. Stop forcing it — have someone you trust check it early to avoid bigger issues and longer downtime.
